Privacy Policy — Just Be Real

This Privacy Policy describes how Just Be Real ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use our app.

Who we are

Just Be Real is operated from India. We are the data controller for information you provide through the app.

Information we collect

Information you provide directly: • Name, date of birth, gender • Phone number and email address • Country and region/state • Profile photos (up to four) • Bio and personal motto • Values, interests, and quirks • Conversation content (Poona sessions, therapy sessions, modules, avatar conversations, coffee chats, village discussions) • Peer review feedback and ratings

Information collected automatically: • Device information (model, operating system, app version) • IP address and approximate location (when you grant permission) • Usage data (features accessed, session length, engagement metrics) • Push notification tokens • Crash logs and diagnostic data

Information we do not collect: • Contacts from your phone • Messages from other apps • Browsing history outside Just Be Real • Biometric data

How we use your information

• To create and maintain your account • To train your AI avatar based on your conversations • To match you with compatible people based on your parameters and thresholds • To facilitate handshakes, avatar conversations, and coffee chats • To send you relevant notifications (which you can control) • To moderate content and investigate complaints • To comply with legal obligations • To improve the app experience through anonymized analytics

Who we share information with

Anthropic (AI processing): Conversation text is sent to Anthropic as per their safety protocol for AI features. See our AI Data Disclosure for details. Anthropic does not use your data to train their models.

Other users: Your profile (name, photo, motto, location, avatar) is visible to users you've matched with or who discover you through village discussions. Your conversations with Poona, therapy personas, and modules are never shared with other users.

Cloudflare R2 (image storage): Your profile photos are stored on Cloudflare R2. Photos are not used for any purpose beyond displaying your profile.

Railway (backend hosting): Our backend runs on Railway. Your data is stored in Railway-hosted PostgreSQL databases.

Expo (push notifications): We use Expo Push Service to send notifications. Only notification tokens and message content are shared.

Government authorities: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or valid legal process.

We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not profile you for marketing.

Your rights

• Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you. • Correction: Update any inaccurate information in your profile or Settings. • Deletion: Delete your account anytime via Settings → Delete Account. All your data is permanently erased immediately. • AI opt-out: Withdraw AI consent anytime in Settings → Data & Privacy. Your past conversations remain until deleted; future processing stops immediately. • Data portability: Request an export of your data by contacting us. • Complaint: Lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority in your jurisdiction.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. On account deletion, all personal data is permanently erased within 24 hours. Anonymized aggregate analytics may be retained indefinitely.

Children

Just Be Real is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe we have information about a minor, contact us immediately for deletion.

Security

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. JWT tokens expire after 8 hours for admin access. We cannot guarantee absolute security — no system is immune — but we work to protect your data.

International transfers

Your data may be processed in the United States (Anthropic, Railway, Expo, Cloudflare) and India. By using Just Be Real, you consent to these international transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified through the app. Continued use after changes means acceptance of the updated policy.
